Around the time I got married, which will be 20 years this May – thank you very much, I started doing a journal. It was mostly a place to keep track of the books I read. I’d record when I started the book, finished it, how many pages it had, where I got it, quotes, and what I thought of it. Then I started adding other things – observations, quotes, thoughts, things like ticket stubs and weird business cards. I did this for about 12 years and then lost interest – or time. Parenting and jobs and things like gadgets and iPhones became the focus. Well, I thought I’d start a series highlighting some of the crazy things I recorded over that 12 years – revisiting the past and recording for the future at the same time.
I’m going to start by naming names. Or listing names to be exact. In an old job, I used to come across a lot of names everyday, and I started noticing how many people have really strange, funny, and ironic names. I decided to write them down and when I had a good list – in they went into the journal. Here are the best:
- Sherrwood Forest
- Molly Brite
- Betty Broadway
- Lacy Hall
- Ray Burger
- Mary De Grouche
- John Crook
- Frances Francis
- Cheri Crampton
- April Showers
- Harry Pitts
- Penny Light
- Tallman Taylor
- Ida Burns
- Russell Nutt
- Mike Hyman
- Thomas Mussleman
- Elizabeth A. Payne
- David Weekly
- Britt League
- Harry Farmer
- Eric Fears
- Ernest Legg
- Pete Bowling
- Vicki Sweet
- Amy Widener
So how did this happen? How as a parent do you do this to your kid? I guess we should be glad they did, because the world could always use more humor in it. Let’s just hope these people have a sense of humor…
