How can life feel like it has lost all it’s meaning while at the same time be so emotional? How can you sometimes feel so hopeless and lost, but yet plan for the future? How does one worry about the lawn or money or work or the dog barking next door when everything could be snatched away in an instant? Like it has for people we used to know. How do we go on knowing it will happen to us too? And why and how, if life is so fragile, have we made it this far? All the big questions to keep us up at night – and to write songs about – and to listen to songs about. So while the World Spins Madly On for, hopefully, our 100 Years, let’s do our best to Float On.
Take a listen and stay up late – pondering…
World Spins Madly On – The Weepies
Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
I thought of you and where you’d gone
and let the world spin madly on
Everything that I said I’d do
Like make the world brand new
And take the time for you
I just got lost and slept right through the dawn
And the world spins madly on
I let the day go by
I always say goodbye
I watch the stars from my window sill
The whole world is moving and I’m standing still
Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
The night is here and the day is gone
And the world spins madly on
I thought of you and where you’d gone
And the world spins madly on.
100 Years – Five for Fighting
I’m 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I’m 22 for a moment
And she feels better than ever
And we’re on fire
Making our way back from Mars
15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
I’m 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I’m a “they”
A kid on the way, babe.
A family on my mind
I’m 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I’m heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15 I’m all right with you
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We’re moving on…
I’m 99 for a moment
And dying for just another moment
And I’m just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
15 there’s still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you’re on your way
Every day’s a new day…
(oh oh ohs)
15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live
Float On – Modest Mouse
I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off sometimes life’s OK
I ran my mouth off a bit too much oh what did I say
Well you just laughed it off it was all OK
And we’ll all float on OK
And we’ll all float on OK
And we’ll all float on OK
And we’ll all float on any way
Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam
It was worth it just to learn from sleight of hand
Bad news comes don’t you worry even when it lands
Good news will work its way to all them plans
We both got fired on exactly the same day
Well we’ll float on good news is on the way
And we’ll all float on OK
And we’ll all float on OK
And we’ll all float on OK
And we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on
Now don’t you worry we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on alright
Don’t worry we’ll all float on
(alright already)
And we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on alright
Don’t worry even if things end up a bit too heavy
We’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on OK
Don’t worry we’ll all float on
Even if things get heavy we’ll all float on alright
Already we’ll all float on alright
Don’t you worry we’ll all float on alright
All float on
