It’s here! Spring is finally here. We have a poppy blooming in our garden. The weather is getting warmer. There are bugs flying around. The grass needs to be cut. All the signs that spring must be here. How much longer before we start to hear – ugh, it’s so hot outside. I’ll take it, though. Shorts to work, running at the beach at lunch instead of on the treadmill at home, enjoying the deck and porch again. Yard work, mosquitos, pollen, thunderstorms, weed pulling. Hey, wait…

It’s here. The kid is going on her first date tonight. We are going too, of course, because she is too young to be going out on dates. I mean she’s not 30 yet, right? But there is a boy involved and pizza and a movie. So it’s a date. This boy is in her orchestra and she likes him and they text back and forth and they want to go to Busch Gardens together – so we thought – lets start with a dinner and movie. So it’s here. Boys. I guess there is no turning back now.
It’s finally here. The kid also went out last night with some friends. She went to a musical at her school. Friday night school fun. This was her first high school outing alone with her friends. For me it was all those Friday night football games and hanging out at pizza places after. There were some wrestling matches and plays too, but mostly football and cars and talking to girls. For the kid, it was the excitement of Seussical the Musical! She knew a lot of kids in it and some of her fellow school orchestra members were playing in the pit. For us, we got a quiet night by the fire pit drinking martinis…

It’s almost here. In two weeks we’ll be in New Orleans! It’s going to be so cool. There are so many things coming up in the next few months to look forward to – baseball season, New Orleans, strawberries, art and food festivals, going to see Jerry Seinfeld and Bryan Adams and U2, the summer, Chicago, surfing, the boardwalk in Ocean City. It is tough sometimes getting through all the daily drudgery of work and school and cold weather and music lessons and gym and rehearsals – forgetting that there is stuff coming. Then when the stuff comes – it all comes at once it seems.
It’s coming. Speaking of being busy, the kid has an audition on Monday. It’s a seating audition for the last concert of the season in Bay Youth Orchestra. She’s been busy practicing – trying to move up in chair ranking. Then she will need to prepare for another big audition in May. She needs to audition to move up in Bay Youth to the Concert Orchestra. If she doesn’t make it then I think she is out of the orchestra. We are not sure how it works, but she has been in the String Orchestra for two years now and has hit the age limit for that orchestra, so she either needs to move up or drop out. She wants to move up, but if her audition isn’t good enough she may not be able to. She should do good enough, but we don’t know how many violins they will take and what if he has a bad audition. Anyway – it’s stressful but what can you do…
