Time for a second dive into my music favorites that began here a few weeks ago. I thought about going deeper into these songs and exploring what makes them so great from my perspective, but music is so personal and so different from person to person. I could explain where these song take me, what moments they bring back, and how I feel when I hear them, but what is more important is where they take you – so give them a chance, dig into the lyrics, and go places. So come fly like we do in a Painting by Chagall, meet James, and let the wind take you through life like a Kite. Enjoy and have fun discovering or rediscovering.
Painting By Chagall – The Weepies
Thunder rumbles in the distance, a quiet intensity
I am willful, your insistence is tugging at the best of me
You’re the moon, I’m the water
You’re Mars, calling up Neptune’s daughter
Sometimes rain that’s needed falls
We float like two lovers in a painting by Chagall
All around is sky and blue town
Holding these flowers for a wedding gown
We live so high above the ground, satellites surround us
I am humbled in this city
There seems to be an endless sea of people like us
Wakeful dreamers, I pass them on the sunlit streets
In our rooms filled with laughter
We make hope from every small disaster
Sometimes rain that’s needed falls
We float like two lovers in a painting by Chagall
All around is sky and blue town
Holding these flowers for a wedding gown
We live so high above the ground, satellites surround us
And everybody says “you can’t, you can’t, you can’t, don’t try.”
Still everybody says that if they had the chance they’d fly like we do
Sometimes rain that’s needed falls
We float like two lovers in a painting by Chagall
All around is sky and blue town
Holding these flowers for a wedding gown
We live so high above the ground, satellites surround us
Satellites surround us
Sometimes rain that’s needed falls
And everybody says you can’t you can’t don’t try…
James – Huffamoose
We’re headed for the Great Smoky Mountains
To see the wild flowers bloom in spring
‘Cause we’ve decided that
There’s no better place to be for two young people
Who just wanna do their thing in the spring
I know we’re gonna be happy
‘Cause James is a freedom fighter and he lives for the moment
His parents are hippies and he sees everything through a rainbow
He’s never unhappy ’cause he never wears a watch
He lives on his mountain bike and he sees beauty in everyone
James says, “He’s gonna change the world”
James says that I am his flower girl
And James and I we’re gonna make a difference
Just wait and see we’re gonna set the world free
It’s two years later now and we’re both out of college
And we’ve decided to love one another for eternity
And I’ve got a good job but James says
“No one understands him, he’s an artist”
He needs time to find out what that means
James says, “He’s gonna change the world”
James says that I am his flower girl
James and I we’re gonna make a difference
Just wait and see we’re gonna set the world free
We’re gonna set the world free
We’re gonna set the world free
He answers to a higher calling
The moon and the sun and the stars are falling through his time
And his space and I’m lucky to be part of it all
He is bigger than life he sees things he knows things
He is not like you and me
James finally found a steady job and now we’re gonna settle down
He still loves his music but he knows where his priorities lie
He stepped on his dreams so many times
And wore out the path he needed to take to find the life
He thought would just happen to him like the changing of a season
Like the changing of a season
Like the changing of a season
Like the changing of a season
Like the changing of a season
Like the changing of a season
Kite – U2
Something
Is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it is
I’m not afraid to die
I’m not afraid to live
And when I’m flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did
And hardness
It sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin
I want you to know
That you don’t need me anymore
I want you to know
You don’t need anyone
Or anything at all
Who’s to say where the wind will take you
Who’s to say what it is will break you
I don’t know
Which way the wind will blow
Who’s to know when the time has come around
Don’t want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye
It’s somewhere I can taste the salty sea
There’s a kite blowing out of control on the breeze
I wonder what’s gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me
I’m a man
I’m not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes
Who’s to say where the wind will take you
Who’s to say what it is will break you
I don’t know
Where the wind will blow
Who’s to know when the time has come around
I don’t want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye
Did I waste it
Not so much I couldn’t taste it
Life should be fragrant
Rooftop to the basement
The last of the rocks stars
When hip-hop drove the big cars
In the time when new media
Was the big idea
What was the big idea
